Feeling tired and lazy today.
Kids are playing nicely.
Check-ups for the boys at the doctor’s office yesterday. Both are healthy. Isaac continues to trend toward being our biggest child. He is bigger right now than Ethan was at 5. He seems to be gaining on Ethan.
Isaac had 4 shots. He should be done now for a long time!
I ate candy for breakfast.
It’s raining. Weather is supposed to be nasty early this evening. Strong winds and rain. 80 degrees yesterday. 60’s today.
In 5 days Audrey gets to have a tooth pulled because it’s keeping one of her other teeth from coming in. It cracked in half today. If that had been an adult tooth, that would have been painful, but it was a baby tooth with no root. So, Audrey just said, “I think I lost a tooth.”. Waiting to hear back from the dentist in case he wants to see us earlier. This is the second time I’ve called and left a message and didn’t hear anything in return. hmmm….
It’s almost 10 and we haven’t started working on school today. I suppose it’s time to get to work.
First of all, today was trick or treating day at a local assisted living center. The kids were cute:

Second, today was the day the heavens opened and asian beetles descended on middle TN. Apparently they like light colors and my house looks like a welcome mat. I went outside to see how many there were on the house and I came inside covered in bugs and screaming like a little girl. Ask the kids. They will confirm this story. Nathan came home and vacuumed up the ones that made it into the house. Too many!!! They somehow get past the window screens.

I bought this sweater at Goodwill today. I think this picture is funny because Audrey is riding her bike in the back yard and Ethan is also standing behind me. He’s wearing a yellow shirt. You can barely see it. Otherwise, you would never know he was there. I don’t know how Nathan managed to get a photo without the rest of Ethan showing. 🙂

We went to Sweet CeCe’s this afternoon. There is one in Franklin and one in our new town here in Spring Hill. It’s a tradition to take out of town guests there. If you visit, you get to experience the joy! Frozen yogurt and all the yummy toppings you can ever hope to find.
With the temperature change, I needed to get some air in the tires of the van. Drove it over to Discount Tire and they immediately had me pull into a bay and took care of it on the spot. Free. There are no free air pumps at gas stations around here. So, having this free service is nice.
We all went running together today. We went to the place where the kids do run club. I took off in the opposite direction of the kids and Nathan. Nathan stayed with Isaac. Audrey made it all the way around before I did!! I think she could be a pretty fast runner if she worked at it. Ethan kept getting distracted, but he did go around the loop twice. I met him near the end of his second lap and finished with him. I probably ran for a little more than 2 miles.
Nathan mowed today. We’re hoping it’s the last time the lawn needs it until spring.
Less than two months to go until Christmas!
As I type this, the temperature in TN and MN are the same. My southern neighbors are freezing 🙂 I’m feeling a little chilly too, but I’m not ready to call off outside activities just yet! We have run club this afternoon and I’m wondering if anyone else will show up.
I’ve lost about 3 lbs in the last couple of weeks. Slowly moving in the right direction.
I got a quote for our health insurance next year. The initial quote was $500 more a month than what we’re paying now. I almost had a heart attack, but God is in control. It looks like we have an option for this next year that will only increases our cost $50 a month. I’m not excited about the increase, but it’s way better than paying out an extra $500.
The sun is shining.
Ethan was teaching Isaac about astronomy today. He did an object lesson. Ethan rotated and revolved around Isaac. So fun!
I’m glad it’s Friday.
Remember how brave I was a few weeks ago and went up to the Go Fish guy in the park and said, “hello”?
Apparently, I have my limits when it comes to talking to musicians/authors I really admire and are standing several feet from me. So, to recap: Go Fish Guy across the park? I will walk across the playground and introduce myself. Todd (sings with Selah) and Angie Smith (speaker with the Women of Faith tour and best-selling author) standing several feet away at Gentry’s Farm on Saturday? Too self-conscious and embarrassed to say anything. sigh. Maybe next time.
It’s shame that Todd has no musical talent 😉
6 months ago I had a plan. I was going to stand by my children and make sure they brushed and flossed their teeth twice a day. Maybe not flossing twice a day, but you know…
Naturally, last week, I looked at the calendar in a panic and realized that I had not been doing that. I really have no desire to do that except for in the days leading up to a dentist appointment when I dread hearing how we’re going to need to get cavities filled and teeth pulled and who knows what all. I did what I think any normal mother does. I told my kids that if they had not been brushing their teeth well, that I would be deducting the amount I need to pay to fix their teeth from their weekly commission. I used words like “hundreds” and “thousands” to put a little fear in them. And when Ethan came to me and announced that he just now realized that he was supposed to be brushing more than the tops of his molars, I may or may not have reaffirmed the fact that his commission was mine!
Heading to the appointment is the moment of truth. The hygenist asks the kids how often they brush and how often they floss (hahahahaha). I sit back and feel mom guilt. I can hardly get myself to floss my own teeth regularly, making sure my kids floss is a lofty aspiration.
I think I should get points for the fact that I actually bring my kids to the dentist at all. I’ve had traumatic dental experiences, but my kids have no knowledge of this. They think it’s FUN! Time to go an get our teeth cleaned and pick up a toy (a plastic ring or little gummy hand that sticks to the wall, most likely). In the meantime, I am silently praying that my jaw wont lock open permanently.
Today’s results? 4 cleanings (the kids and me), flouride treatments (am I poisoning my kids? that’s a whole other post!), and panoramic x-rays for 3 of us. No cavities- Yay! Now I have a follow up appointment at a pediatric dentist in two weeks to get one of Audrey’s molars pulled. It’s blocking one of her other molars (not adult molars) from coming in and has caused another nearby tooth to crack. Thankfully, Audrey has not felt pain from this. Seems she has a small mouth.
I don’t know how 8 1/2 years have passed so quickly.
When I was pregnant with Audrey and Ethan was only 1, I was sad that he wasn’t going to be our baby anymore. I knew that having a younger sibling would change him. It certainly has, but I’m not sad about who he is. Ethan has embraced the role of big brother. From the first day he met his baby sister, he seemed to approach life with an attitude of “the more, the merrier”. He didn’t miss having me to himself. He was just excited about someone to play with. Adding Isaac to the mix was extra fun for him. It is so fun to see the boys play together

Ethan loves games of all kinds- computer games, board games, card games.
He is working on becoming a runner. We joined a local group of kids that run every Friday afternoon and we do a path that is almost a 1 mile loop. He has done two laps each of the last two Fridays. He runs and walks. Soon he will be able to run the whole distance!
He reads in bed at night until he falls asleep.
He is in his first year of doing Bible Bowl at our church and he’s doing very well. They had a round robin tournament earlier in the month and his team came in first!
He LOVES astronomy.
His dad is his favorite person in the whole world!
Ethan makes me laugh every day. I love you, Ethan!!
I love fall. I love warm autumn colors, cozy sweaters, jeans, pumpkin patches, leaves, bonfires, hayrides… all these things happen in the fall.
Today was the annual Lampo Web/IT trip to Gentry Farm. It has pumpkins, corn mazes, hay bale mazes for kids, bins of corn to play in, tire swings and wagon rides. And on the way home Nathan bought me a pumpkin spice latte. Ahhhh…. happiness.
The other highlight of today was that I got up at the crack of dawn and ran a 5k race in town. It was fun. I did a little better than I thought I would. I finished in 34:58. The course was very hilly! Now I’m ready to plot my next race.
It looks like it’s going to be 37 degrees tonight. We haven’t had to turn on our heat yet, but I think we will have to tonight. My hands are cold!

Audrey has been working very hard at reading. The English language is difficult! I’m proud our her hard work!
Every morning Audrey gets up and feeds Max. She never needs to be reminded.
Before she goes to bed, she lays out her clothes for the next day. When she gets up on the morning, she hangs up her pj’s on a hanger on her closet doorknob and they are ready for that night.
She changes her doll, Scarlet, into pj’s at bedtime also.
She draws pictures every day. Usually it’s of ponies and princesses.
She makes up songs.
She wanted our anniversary to be special and wanted Nathan and I to go out on a date (maybe next time…). She arranged the rose petals that fell off one of the roses into a heart shape.

She’s our most compliant child.
She wears a sleeping mask when she goes to sleep. (I find this hillarious).
I just found out she has a notebook she carries around and draws/writes in daily.
I love her madly and have never seen a prettier or sweeter girl.

It’s hard to capture Isaac in a photo. He’s a moving target.
He loves the color green.
He never wants to play by himself.
He still occasionally tries to sneak in our bed early, early in the morning. He thinks if he keeps his head down into the covers, we wont see him.
He loves blowing bubbles.
His secret weapon in trying to get what he wants is to answer any question I have for him with, “Because I love you.” For example, Isaac asks to use my tablet. I respond with “Why do you need it?” He says, “Because I love you.”
If he wants a laugh, he will put on his go-to costume: underwear on his head.
He is loud.
His mother is in denial that he will be in kindergarten next year (gulp)
He gives the best hugs!
