Productive Saturday

Since moving to Spring Hill, I’ve been doing my running on a path that is a .8 mile loop. It’s just about a mile from our house. Today, I decided that it would be more fun to run through some local neighborhoods instead. My plan was to do 4 miles and I figured running in a loop over and over and over and over again would get boring. I mapped out where I wanted to go and headed out this morning a little after 7. It was a miserable run. Spring Hill is so hilly. Perhaps that’s is where the city gets its name. It was in the 70’s for temperature and that isn’t so bad, but the humidty was 80% and I’m not breathing well because of my cold. It was a bad combination. I had to take lots of walk breaks. The hills really did a number on me!

This morning we decided to tackle cleaning and sorting the boys’ closet. It had boxes of toys and clothes. Some of them were boxes we had not unpacked from our move. While Nathan started sorting toys, I went through all the bins of clothes. Some I hung, some are being stored because they are bigger sizes than the boys are wearing and some went in the “goodwill” bag.

Nathan successfully convinced the children to part with some of their toys! We sorted everything into easy to access bins. Some of the toys that they have outgrown we put into a bin of toys that I’m keeping specifically for babies and toddlers that visit 🙂 I have some friends with little ones and it’s nice to have something that they can play with.

Other fun activities from today include grocery shopping, picking up the van from the mechanic, and buying a lawn mower.

We’re excited to have a long weekend and looking forward to a rest day tomorrow.

Summer Has Arrived/Returned

Just as we’re wrapping up summer, the hot temperatures have arrived. We hit 95 today and my weather app says it’s 89 right now. I thought summer was over, but I think it was just a tease.

The house is so quiet right now. Ethan and Nathan are having a fun night together at a game store. I am left with Isaac and Audrey and I set them up with a movie on Nathan’s laptop in the boys’ room. The neighbor kids came over and have now joined them! 4 kids and it’s really quiet. Strange. I’ll take it though.

I’ve been working hard to keep up with my house cleaning schedule. I have a few days to catch up on, but I’ll have time for that tomorrow. See? My stove top is still shiny:

Still staying away from diet soda. In addition to cutting that out, I’ve decided that I’m not going to eat any more after supper. I’m trying to figure out changes that I can make that I can stick with long term. I would love to say that I’m going to cut out sugar, but I don’t know if I can do that right now. We’ll see what happens, but I’m going to try to see what happens if I stick with this through the end of the year (18 weeks!). You’ll probably hear me whine from time to time about how much I want to sit on the couch and eat after tucking in the kids!

Goodbye Diet Soda

In an effort to do things to be more healthy, I’ve decided that it’s time to cut out diet soda (or pop as they call it in MN).

Why? Well, I’ve been hearing lots of studies about diet soda that are sort of alarming. Maybe they are true and maybe they aren’t, but I’m guessing that water is a healthier alternative. So, I’m sitting here drinking a glass of water. Ironically, on the day I decided to make healthier choices, I woke up feeling miserable. I have some sort of cold/sinus ickyness going on. I’m hoping it passes quickly!

Just Keep Swimming

What a crazy month it has been. In the last 4 weeks we have finished packing up the townhouse in Franklin, bought a house, moved all our stuff, unpacked all our stuff, ran back and forth a few times between Spring Hill and Franklin to finish up some cleaning, started back to school for Ethan and Audrey, worried a little about a possible medical issue with Ethan, and we managed to fit in a trip to Pigeon Forge. Financially, it has been a challenging month: extra moving expenses, increased fuel costs from driving back and forth between the two places while we finished everything, the rent for our MN house goes to our property manager this month, 4 new tires for the van. . .
We’ve had the money to take care of everything, but it’s still not fun to watch that number in the bank go down.

There have been times this month that I’ve just wanted to curl up in my bed and cry and not be responsible for anything or anyone. I was so tired when we returned from our trip to Pigeon Forge that I couldn’t even think straight. I think we’re still recovering because I woke up at 4:30 this morning and heard water running in our bathroom. The faucet was running. Hmmm…. hopefully, it wasn’t running for 6 hours.

I feel like there are probably a million things I should be doing or doing better. For now, my goal is to be like Dory in Finding Nemo and “just keep swimming”. I’ll  keep making lists and doing the “next” thing and try to give myself grace (and attempt to ignore those who don’t do the same). Life should slow a little soon.

Home Again

Pigeon Forge was fun, but exhausting. Why didn’t we go to bed earlier?? It was great to spend time with Nathan’s side of the family. Yesterday, Don and Chris and Erica and the kids stopped by to see our house before heading back towards WI/MN.

Today has been back to our normal routine. School today for Ethan and Audrey and grocery shopping and lots of laundry for me!

Photo Dump

Anyone want to see some photos?

Proof of sleep walking? Isaac walked down the stairs and was giggling. He had just woke up from his nap (I thought he was awake). A minute later I found him on the floor snoring.

Isaac can’t get enough of Max.

We’ve been painting:

It’s not very southern of me, but I parked the van in the garage today (finally, the internet cable was buried that had been across the driveway clearing the way to the garage).

New School Year

I was comparing Ethan’s and Audrey’s photos from last August to this one:

 [pe2-image src=”” href=”″ caption=”” type=”image” alt=”2013-08-12.jpg” ]

It’s not a perfect comparison since the photos were taken in front of different doors and different distances, but it does look like they have grown a bit.

Welcome to 3rd Grade Ethan!

Welcome to 1st Grade Audrey!

Busy, busy weekend

Friday afternoon I took off for a one night get away with some of the women’s ministry team at church. We ate great food, and we did a lot of planning for the year. It was nice to get away.

I returned on Saturday afternoon and worked on my new cleaning schedule (I found it online from a friend who recommended it). I had missed a day that had said to vacuum and sweep all the floors. Oops. Vacuuming and sweeping all the rooms of the house took a little while and was a good workout. Later I cleaned all the inside windows. Then Audrey helped me clean the bathrooms. She is a great helper! I want to stay on top of keeping everything clean since we’ve moved in with a nice clean slate here. Nathan spent part of the afternoon getting Max’s shots updated.

Speaking of Nathan, he has been working really hard to make sure that we turn over our rental townhome in Franklin in great condition. I hired someone from our church to do some cleaning. She did the bathrooms and kitchen (including the stove and fridge) and windows. I had already done most of the stove and the hard water stains in the tub and dirty foot prints on the boys’ wall, but once we moved all our stuff out, I really didn’t want to have to bring the kids over there with me to sit while I cleaned and I was exhausted from moving. So, it was a good investment. But Nathan has still had a list of things to do- shine up the laminate floors, weed wack the back area and clean up after Max, additional wall cleaning by the stairs and in the closets, patching a few dings on the walls and shampooing carpets. We cannot wait to be DONE with it. The plan is to turn it over to the property manager on the 15th. Renting with small children was stressful. Renting with small children and a dog bumps that stress level up a little. I felt like I was constantly on edge that they would cause some great damage. It is so nice to know now that any damage my kids and dog do are mine a lone to deal with 🙂

If you’ve watched the weather lately, you may have seen that the Nashville area has received A LOT of rain. We have not had as much in Spring Hill, but Nashville and areas around it had 5-7 inches in different areas. That was over about 5 hours.

Here are some photos:
